Allstate Insurance has started a new campaign aimed at “waking Americans up to Catastrophes.” Allstate wants to:
- Strengthen first responders.
- Better understand the growing risks.
- Rebuild smarter and stronger.
- Create catastrophe funds.
Okay, I cannot argue with the premise that Americans need to be aware of the risks. We need to be aware of the dangers of hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, etc….
But, lets be honest about this campaign. Allstate is starting a campaign to shift the risk of loss away from them. Understanding the risks means we dont move into areas where there is a greater chance of loss. Rebuilding smarter and stronger decreases the chances of a big loss. Creating a catastrophe fund lets someone else pay for the damage.
I applaud Allstate for getting the discussion going, but they need to show that they care about helping people first, not just increasing their profits.
