The Department of Insurance announced an expansion today of a plan that provides affordable insurance coverage to lower income drivers.
For years, one of the biggest complaints about the mandatory insurance law in California is the lack of affordable coverage for low income drivers. However, the Department of Insurance ran a test program in LA and San Francisco offering plans for $400. Over 20,000 people signed up.
The cynics will say that uninsured motorists are still a huge problem. And, they are. But there are 20,000 fewer of those uninsured motorists on the road. And that is just from two cities. With this program expanding to Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Fresno and Alameda counties, the number of uninsured motorists should drop substantially.
Now, more than ever, there is no excuse for being uninsured.
