Four teens in Petaluma, CA died in a car accident. That prompted SFGate to run a story about teens and driving.
Some more statistics after my post last week:
- 16 year old drivers are four times more likely to be involved in a fatality than a 21 year old
- One teen driving with one passenger doubles the risk of a fatal accident
- One teen with two passengers makes the risk of a fatal accident more than 5 times higher
- Teens are 4 percent of the drivers, but are involved in over 10 percent of the accidents
I wish I had some magic cure for teens to stop driving poorly. I know I was a bad driver at 16. This is part of the reason I go to high schools and talk to the kids about driving and accidents. I think more trial lawyers, and more people in the insurance industry, need to take their message, and their pictures, to teens.
