The Atlanta Injury Law Blog has a great post about the fact that tort reform has not resulted in a decrease in medical malpractice insurance premiums for doctors. I know this will come as a surprise to some people, but rather than limiting rate increases, the insurance companies are instead recording record profits.
For at least a year, I have been telling people that the doctors should focus their energies on the insurance companies and not the trial lawyers. The problem with the “medical malpractice insurance crisis” is that it only exists because insurance companies make it exist. There is no crisis. They keep raising premiums.
Ask your doctor if they find insurance premiums outrageous. Then ask them who they blame. Most doctors, I believe, will blame trial lawyers. Why? Because the insurance companies are good at running a smear campaign. In the meantime, they hide their profits.
Stop with the nonsense. The crisis is fake!
