So now the tort reform groups are attacking attorney advertising. Here is one of their editorials. Basically, they have a problem with trial lawyers advertising.
Now, let me see if I can figure this out. They ONLY have a problem with trial lawyers advertising. They dont criticize anyone else in the entire editorial. I guess it is okay for the big firms, Dewey, Cheatem and Howe to advertise. How are individuals like you going to find people like me if I am not allowed to advertise?
Now for my caveat: I am not a big fan of most attorney advertising. I think most of it, quite frankly, is bad. But, I am a believer in the attorney’s right to advertise.
How many of you know how the defense firms that represent insurance companies advertise? Probably very few of you. Let me share a little known secret: these firms get work by taking adjusters to lunch. Plain and simple. They buy the adjusters lunch, sometimes in the form of a seminar, and the adjuster assigns files. Apparently, the tort reform folks are okay with that but not with your right to find an attorney to help you.
When any of the pro tort reform groups would like to debate the issue, my number is 916 247 6868.
