Two stories recently came out that made me think about your need for insurance.
First, KCRA in Sacramento ran a story about flood insurance. (See my post from the weekend about it as well.) The gist: you need to consider flood insurance, especially if you live in a flood zone. Read my weekend post to help you determine if you do live in a flood zone.
Second, the Mercury-News reported on the 100 year anniversary of the 1906 earthquake in California. State officials hope that this anniversary will remind people of the need for earthquake insurance.
Remember, floods and earthquakes are not covered by your homeowners insurance. If you are concerned about either of these issues, and most Californians should at least think about them, then you need to talk to your agent about these programs. Earthquake insurance is adminstered in California by the CEA and flood insurance is a federal program through NFIP.
