The Department of Insurance is expanding California’s low cost auto insurance program to Sacramento, San Joaquin and Contra Costa counties. This is good news for everyone.
First, those people who are driving without insurance get a chance to get low cost auto insurance. This helps them avoid a ticket if they get pulled over. More importantly, it helps them fulfill their obligation to other drivers.
Second, everyone on the road is a bit better off. For every person who purchases the insurance, you have a smaller chance of being in an accident with an insured driver. This is good for everyone driving.
Third, because there is a responsible person to pay for the damages they cause, society benefits. (Okay, this is a bit deep and too deep for our purposes here.)
This is a good idea. I have talked about it before and I would love to see it expanded statewide.
