It is not often that I agree with the Sacramento Bee. Heck, I have been known to take some shots at them and Dan Walter, one of their columnists. But, I do read the newspaper on a daily basis and they recently had an opinion piece that was well written, even if not completely right.
The thrust of this opinion piece: the new regulations proposed by Commissioner Garamendi are good for California. I think the issue here is that zip code matters. The Bee points out that the zip code can still be used, but it will be less important.
I think zip code is important. Take two people who are both 30, married, no tickets or accidents. If one lives in Los Angeles and one lives in Humboldt, where are repair costs higher? Where is a car more likely to be stolen? These things are important and need to be considered in setting insurance rates.
But, the Bee did do a good job with this piece. Kudos to them for staying on top of this story.
