I read this today on Craigslist and had to share it. People keep talking about insurance companies reporting them to DMV as uninsured. People are concerned about their licenses being suspended. It doesn’t happen that way. There is no provision for an insurance company, collection agency, or anyone but DMV or the courts to suspend your license.
Here is how DMV finds out you are uninsured:
A – You are cited by the police
B – You are in an accident, one party fills out an SR-1 and when you get the DMV letter, you cannot provide proof of insurance
C – You cannot provide proof of insurance upon registration.
Otherwise, no one reports you as being uninsured. There you have it. The three ways DMV gets involved. The next time an insurance company threatens you with having your license suspended, refer them here!
