Q: How long is the statute of limitations on my debt?
A: It depends. There are two factors: the type of debt and the state you are in. Since I am in California, I will tell you the statutes for California. For an oral contract it is 2 years. For written contracts, promissory notes and open accounts (including credit card accounts), the statute is 4 years.
