I keep getting calls from people who are trying to get modifications by themselves. These folks usually have a few things in common:
- They make under $70,000 per year;
- They own homes that were bought for $400,000 or more;
- They cannot afford their home, even at its current value;
- They read too much and listen to too many people.
Most of these people are well intentioned. They want to do the right thing and stay in their house. They are trying to keep their home.
The problem is that they listen to non-lawyers. As I told someone recently, I won’t sell homes or cars or boats if these folks will not give legal advice. I understand real estate agents have taken courses in property law. But, that does not mean they cn advise people properly.
Please, if you have a question, call an attorney.
