Today’s Sacramento Bee has an article about ACORN attempting to disrupting foreclosure auctions in Sacramento. The lead paragraph:
Protesters disrupted several foreclosure auctions Tuesday on the Sacramento County Courthouse steps, winning a temporary cancellation of one and sending an unidentified auctioneer to the hospital with chest pains.
The folks at ACORN apparently believe that bullying the auctioneers is the way to get change. Unfortunately, they are just flat out wrong. There is a way to get change, but it is not going to happen with negative publicity about sending people to the hospital, even if that was not their intent, as they said to Jim Wasserman.
The way to get change is through legislative change and enforcement of the laws through the legal system. The legislature is not quick to respond to the crisis and has almost utterly failed, but there are existing laws that can help homeowners. The court’s are allowing us to proceed with our legitimate cases and make our arguments. The judges are receptive to what we are saying.
However, another “outburst” like this by ACORN is going to set us back and not help homeowners. If that is truly the goal of ACORN, they should be supporting our efforts in court and not harassing the auctioneers who are just trying to make a living.
